The orig-inal discharge is now in the possession of theCooper family. After his discharge DonaldMcGilhTa went directly to New York City,where he remained three years, and then lo-cated at the town of Hebron, in Washingtoncounty, N. Y. There he remained a numberof years. Having cast his lot with the Amer-ican party, he was set upon by Indians andTories to such a degree that he was forcedto abandon his home, and he finally joinedthe American army and entered the Revo-lutionary struggle. In 17S9 he settled againin Washington county and founded the town. wAi/ri:u ((((jii:!!. of Argyle, where he died in 1812, aged eigh-ty-nine years. George Cooper, grandfatherof Mr. Cooper on the fathers side, and Dan-iel McGillvra, son of Donald McGillvra,grandfather on the motheis side, emiffratedfrom Washington county, N. Y., to the townof Sterling, Cayuga county, N. Y., arrivingApril 27, 1827, and being among the earlysettlers in that section. George Cooper wasof Irish parentage and served in the war of1812, being stationed at Fort Oswego, wherehe was taken prisoner by the British squad-ron under Sir James Yeo, who bombardedand captured the fortress in 1814. Andrew H. Cooper, father of WalterCooper, was bora at Argyle, Washingtoncounty, N. Y., in 1813, and married Sarah , daughter of Daniel McGillvra, atthe town of Sterling, Cayuga county, N.
