This miniature illustrates the City of God by Saint Augustine. It is from a manuscript that was translated by Raoul de Presles. The ms. dates to the 15th century and in is the Bibliotheque Sainte-Genevievee. The upper section shows the saints already received into heaven. The bottom seven compartments shows those preparing themselves for heaven, by practicing Christian virtues, to leave for the eternal kingdom or to forever expel/remove themselves from the seven deadly sins: from top, clockwise: pride (French: orgueil), lust (luxure), gluttony (gourmandise), covetousness (avarice), sloth (paresse), anger (colere), and envy (envie). Also noted here are the good qualities: humility (humilite), chastity (chastete), moderation (temperance), charity (charite), modesty (modestie), courage (courage), and generosity (prodigalite).
