The world-renowned mineral and gem collections of The American Museum dis- played in this hall owe much to the munifi- cent gifts of J. Pierpont Morgan. The exhibits illustrate the nature, formation, and occurrence of minerals, and their technological uses. In addition there is a systematic mineral collection, in which more than 90 per cent of the 2,000 known mineral species are displayed—arranged according to chemical composition.
