Childe died February 2, 1858,at the age of 57 years. Dr. Jefferson Church was born at Middlefield, Mass.,October 21, 1802. In connection with Seeger he edited .and published Tullys MateriaMedica. In 1823 he married Betsey, daughter of Joseph Little, ofMiddlefield. She died November 8, 1846, in the 42d yearof her age. Children : one son, one daughter. His sec-ond wife was Eliza Houpt, daughter of Samuel Houpt ofHerkimer county, N. Y., whom he married in 1850. Dr. Church was a strong Anti-slavery man, upholdingthe cause for the abolition of slavery when there were butfew to follow and sustain him. He also kept a tavern where Wilsonsblock is, opposite the granite building formerly occupied bythe Republican.
