One of the Red Arrows display team banks sharp left forming a dramatic deep blue curve with its vapour trail against a blue sky with cumulus cloud at the Farnborough International Airshow 2006 The vapour trails are formed by injecting diesel into the exhaust flow . The Red Arrows operate 12 BAe Hawk 1 or 1a advanced trainer aircraft nine being used for each air display with one held in reserve when away from base at RAF Scampton in Lincolnshire with supervision and support at Cranfield . The aircraft they fly are made from mostly British components and foreign trips are funded by British Industry . The Red Arrows have always flown whichever aircraft is in service as the RAF advanced fast jet trainer currently the BAE SYSTEMS Hawk T Mk 1 .
