The earliestdated pattern-book was pub-lished in Co-logne, in 1527,and is a smalloctavo volumewith forty-twoplates; thetitle is inGothic lettersbeneath wood-Design for Eeticella, from a Pattern Book by Vinciola. Sixteenth century. cuts represent-ing women atwork. On the back of the leaf is a large escutcheon, the three crowns of Cologne.
