Mr. Masons mother, a woman of noble character, exerted astrong influence upon his intellectual, moral and spiritual influences of home, of school, of early companionships, ofprivate study and of contact with men in active Ufe, in the ordernamed, affected his character for good and guided him in thedevelopment of his career. Mr. Mason received his degree from Princeton in 1774, studiedlaw with John Adams and was admitted to the bar in 1777. Hehappened to be an eye-witness of the Boston Massacre; and onMarch 5, 1780, before the authorities of Boston, he delivered theofficial oration on the tenth anniversary of that occurrence.
