The avenues to these pylons, which are in many in-stances 6,000 ft. long, lead through rows (dromos) ofcolossal sphinxes or rams (Fig. 23), and through variousother smaller entrance-gates, resembling the pylon inform. 27. The pylon (Figs. 24 and 25), the main entrance-gate, which conducts into the front-court, overlooks allthe other gates and the whole structure of the pylon consists of three parts—namely, of two flank-ing towers, and the gateway thus formed between them.
