Vial of injectable haloperidol. Haloperidol, marketed under the trade name Haldol, is an antipsychotic medication used in the treatment of schizophrenia, acute psychosis, mania, delirium, tics in Tourette syndrome, agitation and severe anxiety. It is also used to treat nausea and vomiting in palliative care. A long-acting formulation is used as an injection in people with schizophrenia or related illnesses who cannot reliably take the oral form. Haloperidol acts as an inverse agonist of dopamine. A movement disorder known as tardive dyskinesia, which may be permanent, can result from taking it.
