The gabled property was restored in 1973, as recorded by a sgraffito inscription over the wide, round arched main doorway. Like other restored houses in the old town, this example has deep-set windows in widely-splayed apertures, wooden shutters and a simple wooden bench in a sunny spot beside the front door. Scuol Sot, the most historic part of this Romansh-speaking spa town in the Lower Engadine Valley, is a maze of narrow, winding stone-paved lanes, cobbled alleys and small squares centred on bubbling spring-water fountains. Many traditional houses have been restored over recent decades, with their new owners carefully preserving architectural and artistic features such as dual or double aspect oriel windows, bread ovens, sgraffito decoration, inscriptions in Romansh and painted coats of family arms.
