The photograph was taken at the end of February 2012, a few days before protesters were evicted from St Paul's. The Occupy London protest is a non-violent protest campaigning against the lack of affordable housing, social injustice, economic inequality and corporate greed and the influence of companies and lobbyists on the government. They are also backed by the tax avoidance protest group UK Uncut. Protesters set up camp outside the cathedral in October 2011 when they were unable to hold their protest outside the London Stock Exchange in nearby Paternoster Square. They were evicted by bailiffs and police at the end of February 2012 after the High Court refused to allow them to appeal against the eviction ruling. "Anonymous" is a loose alliance of "faceless" activists which has arisen via the Internet as a response to increasing infringement of personal privacy and rights by over-powerful multinational corporations and even governments and certain sections of the press in some countries. Members of Anonymous are required to wear a Guy Fawkes mask, derived from the main character - "V", in Alan Moore's graphic novel series V for Vendetta, illustrated mainly by David Lloyd and made even more famous in the film of the same name. Apparently it is the top-selling mask in the world. The Anonymous flag shows a suit and tie with a question mark instead of a head, representing the fact that the group has no leader, but takes collective decisions. The other details in the circle are reminiscent of the flag of the United Nations, but with no geographic boundaries.
