Portrait of Ellen 'Nellie' Farren (1848 – 1904), popular English music hall performer, actress and singer who was best known for playing the "principal boy" in musical burlesque at the Gaiety Theatre, London where she later became a co-producer , having first made her debut at the Olympic Theatre performing comedy and even Shakespeare plays. She suffered from a spinal disease and after contracting rheumatic fever in Australia, leading to her retirement with around £7000 being raised at benefit concerts being awarded to last public appearance was at a Gaiety "Nellie Farren Night".
