The water travels down an underground pipe from a reservoir called Llyn Cwm y Foel up the valley in the mountains and into the powerhouse. It passes through an intake grid chamber and onto a turbine generator. The turbine is controlled from a computerised panel and the amount of electricity generated is dependant on the amount and flow of water from the pipe. A tailrace returns the water after it has passed through the turbine to the main stream. The generation of this clean electricity will help prevent an annual release of many tonnes of the main greenhouse gas, carbon dioxide, which is a major contibutor to global warming and climate change.
