Residents of block of flats in Cleveland Road Gosport have praised fire crews for their swift actions in stopping a fire from spreading to their properties. A fierce blaze that is believed to have been started by an faulty television left a man homeless after the fire gutted his property. Fire crews faced "treacherous" conditions late on Wednesday evening when battling the fire that broke out in a ground floor studio flat. osport Hampshire Wednesday 25th November 2015 Residents of block of flats in Cleveland Road Gosport have praised fire crews for their swift actions in stopping a fire from spreading to their properties. A fierce blaze that is believed to have been started by an faulty television left a man homeless after the fire gutted his property. Fire crews faced "treacherous" conditions late on Wednesday evening when battling the fire that broke out in a ground floor studio flat. Two fire appliances , from Gosport were dispatched at just after 11pm But such was the seriousness of the fire that crews had to ventilate the property with a fan before fighting the fire. Other residents in the block where asked to stay in doors and keep there windows and doors closed whilst fire crews dealt with the incident. Resident Roger Bill who watched the drama unfold from his third floor flat said “ I could hear a faint beeping," the 55-year-old said than I smelt the smoke and my dog was going mad. I heard a lot of banging and than the glass window smashing. It was quite worrying when it’s on the ground floor and your up the top. Roger said he thought the flat was unoccupied. But one of the neighbours who knows the man said he’d only moved in about three days ago. A neighbour who did not wished to be named said “That they where just very grateful that the fire bridge had stop the fire from spreading to her property. Watch Manager Tim Harrison from Hampshire Fire and Rescue said” We where called to a ground floor flat fire. When we arrived we found the property well alight. The initial danger was from a backdraft. Firefighters had to fight the fire for five minutes outside before those wearing breathing apparatus could get inside the building." The fire was showing signs of backdrafting which is a very dangerous condition”. The fact that the flat has been had been unoccupied at the time this gave us some time to cool the property before we committed crews in special
