Oil Spill in the Arava Valley, southern Israel
Streak of crude oil flowing eastward in the Ein Evrona Nature Reserve in the southern Arava Valley, north of Eilat, Israel. Caused by infrastructure works done on the Eilat-Ashkelon pipeline-land conduit for crude oil from Eilat on the Red Sea to Ashkelon on the Mediterranean-the leak from the pipe released millions of liters of viscous black fluid into the fragile reserve, creating a polluted area 8 km long, endangering local flora and fauna especially acacia trees, many species of reptiles, local deer population, wolves and others.
