Failures in this injection occur if the internal oblique lineis ignored, if the needle loses the contact with the inner side ofthe ramus, or if the injection is too low. It is important toinject in a horizontal plane one centimeter over the last molarto reach the pterygo-mandibular space above the lingula. Ifwe insert the needle along the bone too far down, we find thata projecting lingula guides the needle directly into the muscle, and this we want to avoid. 2. MENTAL INJECTIONS For the injection into the mental foramen, we insert theneedle into the reflexion of the mucous membrane, below thefirst bicuspid. Holding the finger tip over the foramen, com-press the mucous membrane, and push the needle down andsliglitly back along the bone for several millimeters. AVlien.
