Menziesii banksia seed cone. Menzies' banksia (Banksia menziesii) is a shrub that produces large red flower spikes. After pollination the seeds are produced in this cone-like structure. It requires the heat of a fire for the seeds to be released. Such plants are called pyrophytes. Menzies' banksia is native to western Australia.
