This press is amodification of the well known type of arbor press usedin machine shops quite generally, differing only in thatit is geared for a ratio of 34 to 1 in order to provideincreased pressure necessary for this particular purpose. Some of the advantages which result from the use ofthis press in babbitting armature bearings are that asthe mandrels, centering rings, pouring cups and other. Thepress and the mold are combined, so that the babbittlining can be poured into the small space between themandrel and the bearing with more accuracy than withthe usual hand method. The various operations necessary in babbitting anarmature bearing with the aid of this press consist ofputting the mandrel in its lowered position and thebearing in place in the centering ring, with theflanged end down. The mandrel can then be raised until stopped by theshoulder of themandrel cup, reallya pouring funnel,provided to facili-tate the pouring,can then be placedon top of the bear-ing.
