View of Masada, a desert cliff and fortress as seen from the west, on the left side of the cliff we see the three natural steps on which King Herod the Great built his northern palace between 31 and 14 BC. The holes in the cliff are water cisterns built by King Herod. On the photo's left side we see the Dead Sea, the Rift Valley and the Mountains of Moab beyond them, on the right we see the ramp built and used by the Roman soldiers to conquer the fort from the Jewish Zealots, Rebels or Sicarii who lived on Masada during the Great Revolt against the Romans from 70-73 AD, the Zealots lost in the end and Masada, Israel.
