Colin Pillinger (1943-2014). Caricature of the British planetary scientist Colin Pillinger. Pillinger is best known as the lead scientist that built Beagle 2, a spaceprobe that attempted to land on Mars and search for signs of life. On the 25th December 2003, Beagle 2 was released from the European Space Agency's Mars Express spacecraft but all communication was lost soon after. It is not known what happened to the lander.
