On the 27th of July, 1875, the ex-Presi-dent made a visit to his daughters home, nearCarter Station, Tenn. When he started on hisjourney, he was apparently in his usual vigoroushealth, but on reaching the residence of his childthe following day, he was stricken with paralysis,which rendered him unconscious. He rallied oc-casionally, but finally passed away at 2 A. m.,July 31, aged sixty-seven years. His funeral washeld at Greenville, on the 3d of August, withevery demonstration of
