An American text-book of genito-urinary diseases, syphilis and diseases of the skin . ly complete, the swelling of the lidis only accompanied with epiphora, chemosis, and conjunctivitis ; partial en-tropion and trichiasis sometimes result. The preauricular and submaxillaryglands are always enlarged, which is a sign of great value in determining thediagnosis, although it must not be forgotten that even this sign may befound in other diseases. Hard chancre of the lid might possibly be mistaken for chancroid, epithe-lioma, and inoculation from vaccine virus. Kneis2 mentions two cases ofchancroid at the inner angle of the eye. In epithelioma the age of thepatient will usually, although not always, decide the diagnosis. Vaccinationof the eye is very difficult to differentiate, and, as the enlargement of theglands referred to may be found in almost all these cases, Ave must wait forthe appearance of the eruption to decide the diagnosis unless we can make amicroscopical examination. 1 Venereal Diseases, 1895, p. 558. 2 The Eye in General Diseases, p. 405.
