Cerebral palsy. Seven-year-old boy with cerebral palsy playing with other children. Cerebral palsy is a developmental abnormality caused by damage to the brain of a baby during late pregnancy, child- birth or early childhood. It can result in anything from slight weakness and lack of limb coordination, to complete paralysis. This child's special seating unit holds him securely in place and allows him to move around independently, play and receive an education. Photographed in Bangladesh, where the Motivation Charitable Trust began a special seating project for children with cerebral palsy in 1998, in partnership with the Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed.
