This image may not be used to state or imply the endorsement by NRAO, AUI or NSF of any company or product Cas-A supernova remnant. Coloured radio image of the Cassiopeia-A (Cas-A) supernova remnant. The colours represent observed intensity, from white (brightest) to dark blue (faintest) with a black background. Cas-A is a spherical, expanding cloud of gas produced when a star with 20 times the mass of our Sun ended its life in an immense supernova explosion around 350 years ago. It lies about 7000 light years away. Image taken at a wavelength of 20cm by the Very Large Array (VLA) radio telescope in New Mexico, USA.
