AN ADULT TROUT. 225 The 6th engraving on plate No. VII. is that ofa salmon-fry of between eight and nine monthsold. In length it is four inches, and it is nowmore deeply marked with transverse bars anddorsal spots than at any other period. I regret that, owing to the season of the year at which I madethe application, I could not get a specimen of theparr, to have it engraved and coloured, and placedside by side with the salmon-fry represented onthe plate I am now describing.
