Ierapetra is known as "bride" or"nymph" of the Libyan 340 days of sunshine per year it's the European champion . There is a quiz about Ierapetra among the Cretans asking: "All around it rains, but in the middle the sun is shining! What is it?". Ierapetra, of course! With more than years of history it doesn't lack in archeological interest. Beautiful landscapes and traditional villages all around and an unbelievable tropical island, "Chrissi" of "Gaidouronisi - Donkey Island" about 8 miles to the south, are few of the things that attract visitors to the municipality of Ierapetra. During daytime the times passes sweet and slowly, but when the night falls there's frenzy everywhere in restaurants and bars. Top quality Cretan food and drink (Ierapetra's Raki is considered to be the best in Crete) can be found everywhere in this town. Dozens of excellent beaches to the east and to the west, also two great ones inside the town.
