Zagreb is the capital and the largest city of the Republic of Croatia. It is located in the northwest of the country, along the Sava river, at the southern slopes of the Medvednica mountain. The city has a rich history dating from the Roman times to the present day. Zagreb is the seat of the central government, administrative bodies and almost all government ministries. It is also a civic and transport hub where Central Europe, the Mediterranean and Southeast Europe regions meet. Count Josip Jelacic von Buzim (1801 C 1859J was the Ban (prince) of Croatia between 1848 and 1859. He was a noted army general, remembered for his military campaigns during the Revolutions of 1848 and for his abolition of serfdom in Croatia.
