Piped in this way, there should be no diffi- culty in keeping the water in the flow pipes above 180 degrees and in the returns above 140 degrees, with an open tank system. To maintain a temperature of 48 de- grees, with the thermometer registering 20 degrees above zero outside, would require from 500 to 800 pounds of coal, according to its quality, and with an outside temperature of 10 degrees about twenty per cent more would be needed. HEAT FOB COLDFBAMES. I wish to use hot water to heat some coldframes, and as I suspect that rules for greenhouse heating will ndt hold good for frames, I seek advice. The frames are of concrete and are 4x60 feet, inside measurement. The south or low side is twelve inches, the high side eighteen inches, above the ground level. The sashes are 3x4% feet. I thought of running a 2-inch flow on the high side, six inches from the sashes (this would cast no shade on the ground), with a 3-inch drop to the far- ther end, and then a drop down to twelve inches below the surface of the soil in the frames, branching into three 2-inch returns. Each frame would be piped in the same way. Lettuce and radishes will be the fall and winter crops, and about April 1 the frames will be bedded to sweet potatoes, for slips or plants. The potatoes will re- quire a soil temperature of 58 to 65 de- grees. In this part of Kansas we have many zero days during winter, but. Style II Positive Protection from loss o
