Youth Express Bike Shop's Mission Statement: While our success has been built on providing quality products and repair services, the unique structure of the Express Bike Shop allows our customers an additional reason to feel good about doing business with us. As a nonprofit, social purpose enterprise of Youth Express, 100% of our revenues are reinvested in our business internship program where urban youth gain the skills, knowledge and confidence to succeed in the future. Since the beginning, Express Bike Shop has subscribed to the concept of the ‘double bottom line’. This means that we balance a commitment to traditional business principles with a commitment to our social mission. Our customers can expect to receive courteous, professional service, quality products and the knowledge that their dollars are also going to benefit a great cause. Bike Shop Internships: Working side-by-side with an experienced mechanic, all of our youth interns complete an intense Bicycle Repair Certification process. In addition, during the course of the season, our interns make progress toward the Small Business Certification. They are thoroughly schooled in the daily shop responsibilities including assisting customers, preparing the bank deposit, ordering and stocking items in the retail area and paying the bills. As they gain experience, they are introduced to higher-level business concepts like reading financial statements, developing advertising strategies and selecting the merchandise mix on the retail floor. Youth Express For over 30 years Youth Express has worked in partnership with youth to create and shape opportunities that develop their leadership, employment, entrepreneurial potential and to learn all aspects of running a small business.
