Starbirth region NGC 346, Hubble Space Telescope image. This nebula is in the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC), a satellite galaxy of the Milky Way that lies around 210,000 light years from Earth. Seen here are young stars that are still forming from gravitationally collapsing gas clouds. They have not yet ignited their hydrogen fuel to sustain nuclear fusion. Image taken by Hubble's Advanced Camera for Surveys.
