The receptive field of bipolar cells and ganglion cells is concentric : the circular central area is surrounded by a ring, the edge of the receptive field. The central part of the rod layer is depicted as lighter and the surrounding area more orange in colour. Below are two horizontal, blue cells, one purple bipolar cell and on green ganglion cell.
