Six-hour examination showed a slightresidue of about an ounce in the stomachand the remaining portion of the meal in theterminal ileum and ascending colon. Twen-ty-four-hour examination showed the stom-ach and small intestines empty. A slightamount of the meal had been evacuated andthe remainder filled the colon. The hepaticflexure lay in a normal position but wasfixed by adhesions. The transverse colonpassed, transversely, across the abdomenfrom just above the crest of the right iliumto the splenic flexure which was in a normalposition. No fistulous tract was noted. A barium colon enema was then given(after a preliminary cleansing enema) andobserved fiuoroscopically during the admin-. FiG. 5. October 30, 1919. Anterior-posterior view, showing gastro-enterostomy. practically twice the size. At the same timea quantity of the barium mixture was ob-served spreading out through the gastricarea and assuming the gastric shape and Gastrocolic Fistula 519 appearance of rugae. A plate was made im-mediately which confirmed this opening from the colon to the stomach
