Global Hawk unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), aerial view. This UAV, developed by Northrop Grumman, is used by US armed forces to carry out surveillance. This is this aircraft's maiden flight, en route to Edwards Air Force Base, California, USA, from Palmdale, California, on 7 June 2005. The Global Hawk design has been in development since 2001. Current designs have a wingspan of 35 metres, and cost 35 million USD.
