Upon the organ-ization of the State judiciary,in 1846, he was appointed oneof the Associate Judges of theSupreme Court, and was suc-cessively re-elected until hisdeath. In 1858, upon the elec-tion of Judge Hemphill to theUnited States Senate, he wasmade Chief Justice and held that position up to the time ofhis death, in Washington County, Texas.
