The movement of the enemy becameknown to General Sherman on the following day; but, being un-certain as to Hoods intention, and both bridgea^in the Union rearhaving been swept away by a freshet, he delayed moving his forcestill the 4th instant, when three pontoon bridges were laid, overwhich the armies of the Cumberland, Ohio, and Tennessee werecrossed, and marched toward Marietta.
