Jurassic shark fossil. This medium-sized shark is similar to today's angelsharks (Squatina), with the same flattened body and flattened head. The pectoral fins are very well developed and flexible, probably used for camouflage in the sand in the same way as a modern ray. This shark lived in shallow coastal waters, and fed on fish, molluscs and crustaceans. This specimen is from the Jurassic Solnhofen Lithographic Limestone found in Bavaria, Germany. The Jurassic lasted from 201 million years ago to 145 million years ago.
