Every Buddhist male is expected to take up monastic residence twice in their lives once as a novice monk between the age of 10 and 20 and once as a fully ordained monk sometime after the age of 20. Girls sometimes enter the monastery wearing pink robes and shaving their heads until when they are ordained then they wear white robes. The nuns get an education in the monastery.
