Ryanair Boeing 737 EI-DLN taking off from London-Luton Airport LTN
EI-DLN, commission number 37521, is operated by Ryanair and first took to the air on the 6th December 2008, is a “New Generation” Boeing 737-8AS (WL) powered by two CFMI CFM56-7B26 engines. The 737-800 is a stretched version of the 737-700, and replaces the 737-400. It also filled the gap left by the decision to discontinue the McDonnell Douglas MD-80 and MD-90 following Boeing's merger with McDonnell Douglas. The −800 was launched in 1994 and entered service in 1998. The 737-800 seats has 162 passengers in a two-class layout, or 189 in one class, and competing with Airbus’s A320. For many airlines in the , the 737-800 replaced aging Boeing 727-200, McDonnell Douglas MD-80 and 90 series of aircraft. The Boeing 737 Next Generation, commonly abbreviated as Boeing 737NG is the name given to the −600/-700/-800/-900 series of the Boeing 737 aircraft, and the third generation derivative of the 737. They are short- to medium-range, narrow-body jet airliners. Produced since 1996 by Boeing Commercial Airplanes, the 737NG is sold in four sizes seating typically 110 to 210 passengers. Powered by two CFMI CFM56-7B26 engines made by CFM International (CFMI) . The CFM56 ( military designation F108) series is a family of high-bypass turbofan aircraft engines with a thrust range of 18,000 to 34,000 pounds-force (80 to 150 kilonewtons). CFMI is a 50–50 joint-owned company of SNECMA, France and GE Aviation (GE), USA. Both companies are responsible for producing components and each has its own final assembly line. GE produces the high-pressure compressor, combustor, and high-pressure turbine, and SNECMA manufactures the fan, gearbox, exhaust and the low-pressure turbine, while some components are made by Avio of Italy. The engines are assembled by GE in Evendale, Ohio, and by SNECMA in Villaroche, France. With the completed engines marketed by CFMI.
