In 1907 Mr. White was appointed by President Roose-velt to investigate the affairs of the Cass Lake, MinnesotaIndian Reservation, and his recommendations were favor-ably acted upon; he was further honored by PresidentRoosevelt by an appointment as a member of the ForestryDepartment in the Commission for the Conservation ofNatural Resources, and became one of the best informedand enthusiastic leaders of Conservation in America, de-voting a great deal of his time to this very important sub-ject. In 1909 the Governor of Missouri appointed him a mem-ber of the State Board of Forestry and delegate to theNational Conservation Congress at Seattle. In 1912 he was elected president of the Fourth NationalConservation Congress at RAYMOND BAIRD WHITE.(841d)
