It was theheadquarters of the first large inigation enterprise established inthe province and which is now owned and operated by the CanadianPacific Railway Company. The use of irrigation has made thecountr>^ tributary to Lethbridge on the east and south attractivelyproductive. An additional hundred thousand acres north of Leth-bridge will be brought under irrigation in the near future. The cityitself has been greatly beautified by the use of irrigation is substantially built. It has a good class of business Arts Building at Provincial University schools, churches and residences. It has a good wholesale businesson the Crows Nest Railway. One of the Dominion ExperimentalFarms, which illustrates both irrigated and dry farming practice,is situated at Lethbridge. Its irrigation, mines, wheat and sheepand other stock constitute a large total of wealth and resource forthe Southern Alberta centre. Medicine Hat is one of the most important industrial citiesof the province. It is situated on the main line of the CanadianPacific Railway twenty-five miles from the eastern boundary inthe centre of the greatest natural gas field yet discovered in the prov-ince. Gas is found at a depth of a thousand feet. The gas furnisheshousehold fuel to the whole city at the small cost of 20c. per thousandcubic feet and 5c. per thousand for industrial purpose
