The Rock of Solutré, an imposing landmark in southern Burgundy has been occupied by man for at least 55,000 years, it is also the centre of the Pouilly-Fuissé wine appellation. It attracted media coverage from the 1980s when French President François Mitterrand made ritual ascents of the peak once per year.
