Berlin. House of the Wannsee Conference Memorial Site. Villa where Nazi & SS leaders met on 20 January 1942 to plan deportation & extermination of the European Jewish Community Wannseekonferenz. The meeting was arranged by SS-Obergruppenführer Reinhard Heydrich to coordinate various government departments in the implementation of the ‘Final solution to the Jewish question’ (Endlösung der Judenfrage). The intention was to deport Jews of German-occupied lands to extermination camps in Poland. The Wannsee House, site of the conference, is now a Holocaust memorial. History of the Wannsee villa. Pharmaceutical manufacturer, Ernst Marlier, built the luxury villa in 1914. He sold it to right wing industrialist Friedrich Minoux in 1921 who subsequently sold it to the SS Nordhav foundation in 1941 for use as a SS guest house. After the Second World War, the villa was handed over to the SPD political party who established an educational centre called the August-Bebel-Institute. It was used as country hostel for schools between 1952 and 1982. The house was designated a memorial in 1982 and in 1992, on the 50th anniversary of the Wannsee Conference, it became an official museum and educational centre.
