A late 19th Century illustration of the burning of Deerfield, one of New England's frontier villages in Massachusetts, United States of America. In Queen Anne's War (1702-1730) the village was subjected to a major raid, in which 40 percent of the population was taken prisoner. French and allied Indians breached the palisade burned the village, killed numerous settlers and took more than 100 residents captive who were ransomed and returned to New England.
