Raven UAV, night launch. US Army soldier preparing to launch the Raven unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) at night. This photograph was taken with night vision apparatus. This launch is being done to perform aerial reconnaissance as part of Operation Swarmer, a combined US Army and Iraqi Army (IA) air assault raid northeast of Samarra, Salah Ad Din Province, Iraq. This was part of the larger Operation Iraqi Freedom (2003-2010). The Raven UAV was developed by the Aerovironment company. Photographed by the 55th Combat Camera Company, on 16 March 2006.
