Kizkalesi, Mersin Province, Turkey. The Kizkalesi fortress in the Mediterranean Sea south of Turkey. The Kizkalesi castle covers most of the area of the tiny island, which is located close to the shore of Kizkalesi town and can be accessed through a short boat trip. The fortress was first built by a Byzantine emperor in the 11th century AD, and later rebuilt first by the Byzantines and then by a monarch of the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia. It is an important historical and tourist site with various legends attached to it
