Churchill Barrier 1, Orkney Islands, Scotland, UK - One of four barriers built during WW2, on the orders of Churchill, to protect shipping in Scapa Flow from German submarines. After the war, they were converted into roads joining the islands of Mainland, Burray and South Ronaldsay, and the two smaller islands of Lamb Holm and Glimps Holm.
