Knee ligament reconstruction surgery. Surgeon inserting an arthroscope (joint endoscope) in a patient's knee during surgery to reconstruct the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). The ACL is one of the four major ligaments that hold the knee joint together. It joins the femur (thigh bone) to the tibia (shin bone) and is commonly injured while playing sport. During the operation a donor ligament will be grafted onto the torn ACL to restore full function of the knee.
