Eye injuries and their treatment . cornea proper. Fio-. 1 illustrates a healed incised wound of the cornea five weeks afterthe injury. The case was that of a schoolboy whose right eye was struckby a piece of glass thrown by a companion. On the outer aspect of theball there was a well-marked scar involving the ciliary region, the cicatrixshowing a decided depression and shrinking. The eye, which was painfuland tender on pressure over the ciliary region, was enucleated five weeksafter the injury. The wound is in the centre of the cornea, which dipsin over the site of the scar. The epithelium is proliferated and membrane has healed, but is irregular in outline ; Descemetsmembrane has not re-united, its ends projecting inwards towards thesubstantia propria. Owing to inflammatory exudation the iris has becomeadherent to the lens, and the cornea to both lens and iris. The ciliaryregion is congested and contains many leucocytes, a condition indicatingthe existence of cyclitis. The lens is cataractous. PLATE.
