Baby weighing. A crying 10-week- old baby girl is weighed on electronic scales, her weight digitally displayed as kg ( lb). In babies and children weight is a routine indicator of growth with regularity of weight gain being more important than the amount gained. At birth babies weigh an average of kg (7 lb) with few babies weighing less than kg ( lb) and few weighing more than kg (10 lb). After an initial period of slight weight loss during the first 10 days after birth babies gain about 28g (1 oz) a day up until they are about three months old. After this time the growth rate slows down a little.
