Earthquake faultline, Japan. Rift running from upper left to lower right across agricultural land in the Neo Valley, Japan, in 1891, following the Great Nobi Earthquake. This powerful earthquake took place on 28 October 1891, and caused the formation of rifts up to 6 metres in height. Over 7000 people died, more than 17,000 were injured and over 140,000 buildings destroyed. It was one of the first major disasters to be recorded by photography.
